Review Style

My reviews focus on three main things: the romance, the world, and the adventure.

Romance
How strongly is the romance emphasized throughout the plot?
It is a slow romance or does it kick off quickly?
Is the attraction immediate? Do they start as friends? Enemies?

World
What type of culture is it reminiscent of?
How vast does the world feel?
Is there magic? Or magical creatures?

Adventure
What is at stake for the characters in the story?
What are the elements of the story that make it unique?
How fast or slow does it move along?

Obviously there are many other factors to be considered: characters, voice, quality of writing, etc. But as I will be reviewing primarily specular fiction, I chose the three aspects that I look for most when choosing a new fantasy novel to dive into.

I will include whether or not I would recommend the book based on my subjective taste (see below).

My Taste
Likes:
- Sprawling worlds that require maps and characters who travel the vast expanse of said maps.
- Magic
- Faeries, elves, mythological figures/creatures
- Emotionally intelligent characters who aren't co-dependent on the romantic interest of the story
- Antiheros! I love the thief or assassin you can't help but root for.
- Slow burn romances where the characters either start as friends or enemies

Dislikes:
- Vampires, werewolves, zombies, angels, or demons.
- Books that are set entirely in space (though I'm okay if only part of it is set in space. i.e. The Lunar Chronicles)

Of course, someday I might read a story about zombies in space that I love. We'll just have to wait and see!
